There is an organization called Project Managers Institute (or PMI) which grants certification. If you contact them they’ll probably steer you in the right direction. Here’s a few from Google, below.

Does anyone know how far back I can go to claim experience for the PMP Certification> I was an Auditor from 12/1998 to August 2001. I was wondering if that experience would qualify me. I was not leading a team, but I was leading projects. Would this count?

there is a limit on how far u can go back. leading projects does count. you have to put in who your boss was – who could verify what you did at the time. they only audit about 10% of the applications.
i can’t remember the exact limit but it tells on the application.
that test is really hard, make sure you’re ready. i used rita mulcahy’s blue book to study.

There are tons of advices I could give you. The best one is: start as SAP consultant for a consulting firm. They will pay you the training and you will be able later to become a contractor.

You haven’t said which certification you’re interested in, but I’m assuming it’s PMI’s PMP certification.
I use Rita Mulcahy’s book in the PMP prep class that I teach, and it is basically a self-study guide. I’ve put a link below.
There are many free resources available on the web, but you need to make sure that anything you use is based on the 2004 version of the Project Management Body of Knowledge, and not the older 2000 version.
