Question by radical_truth2000: Grant application question- “Do you forsee any risks which may affect your project?”?
The project involves providing workshops (on parenting, mental health, relationships, finances, housing, legal etc) to young parents under the age of 25 and assisting them with access to employment and education. We will also be providing a bus pick-up service, lunch and childcare.

This is my first grant application and I am unsure as to which catigory of risks they are referring.

Am I supposed to include our organisations whole risk management policy and proceedures document?
Does it include risks to clients attending the project, such as the bus crashing on the way to a workshop?
Or is this just risks to the project such as the co-ordinator going insane and stooting them all?

Please only answer if you have knowledge on grant writing for social services.
(No, being ON social services doesn’t count sorry)

They basically are asking what potential problems may arise that would affect your project negatively. Being affected negatively would be things like running out of funding in the middle of the project (you didn’t ask for enough), city/county regulations changing, what happens if you can’t get the enrollment you wanted to have, potential problems with the bussing issues, staffing issues, etc.

Not risks like something insane happening. They just want to know that you have thought of possible obstacles you might face along the way and how you would deal with those challenges to overcome them so that your project will be completed (they want to make sure they won’t be funding a project that is destined for failure).

You’ll need a database to store the rooms in. The rooms will have an availability date (or a flag that says it is occupied). You can then write a front end which has a button on it to say “Display rooms that are not occupied”. When this is clicked, a query is run to return a list of all rooms that are not currently occupied (indicated by the date or the flag or whatever). The query will return a list of rooms into a data grid (that are not allocated). You can then click on that room to allocate it. Additionally, you will need some sort of mechanism to deallocate a room when the occupants leave. This can be done by either providing a list of occupied rooms into an data grid or you can use a text box to enter the room number that you wish to deallocate.

Now, you don’t mention how complex this system has to be. e.g. You may want to do forward booking of rooms. In this case, selecting by some sort of date mechanism would be the better option.

Hope this gives a basic overview of what you need to do. B.T.W. You could use XML as the database if you don’t have access to MS Access, SQL Server or any other RDBMS.

I am a MSC IT student. i got to do a project for my final year. I like to develop an intranet application which involves employess time sheet entry, leave management system, knowledge portal, e.t.c..
Please tell me what languages and database can i use to develop my project.

a form of C and MYSQL… im sure u could do it with PHP sense its more internet, and im geussing that its a lot easier than C versions… so yea…. MYSQL for sure tho… =)

WPF Restaurant application Demo

daneshmandi.com This project consists of two separate parts; Restaurant app and Waiter app. The Waiter app is a Pocket PC based application based on Windows Mobile 5 that helps waiters to place customers’ orders besides getting informed of orders’ states to serve them to customers. This application works in an online environment in a WiFi network. On the other side, the Restaurant app is a PC application based on WPF which is used in three different stations by three different users; Manager, Kitchen organizer and Cashier. The Manager, defines users of the applications and assigns different permissions to them. Moreover, he can defines initial data of the application and also can get different reports by the app. Kitchen organizer uses the Restaurant application to be informed of new or edited orders to prepare them besides, updating orders state and also availability of orders’ items. And finally the Cashier, who will use this application for printing receipt and doing check out processes. Important notice: I definitely know that the processes inside Restaurants might be different in real situations. Better say, the processes in this application are just imaginary. I think you should have:

1) a project management application that all three of you can access and update
2) a test environment – for that, I would recommend virtualization so that it doesn’t interfere with your production environment

for 1 and 2 i still have questions

1)project manager has to do with content management?and if not then what is the difference?

2)what is the role of test enviroment?

and i also want to state that i want to be the person who guides the process and organise developers that make dynamic sites,flash,actionscript,animations .is this software appropriate and if yes how?please suggest me any possible way for a better co operation for a job of web development from distance….
