What kind of a career can you get with a bachelors degree in a field not in your specific degree?

Question by incuwallus: What kind of a career can you get with a bachelors degree in a field not in your specific degree?
A year ago I received a Bachelors Degree in Geography in the State of Michigan. I relocated to Flagstaff, AZ because I love the state and want to reside here long term. I’m having a problem finding specific jobs in the field of Geography (ie, Planning, GIS, Cartography, etc.) without possessing a Masters Degree of even a Doctorate. The problem is I’m burnt out from my undergrad still and have no desire to go back to school (especially grad school) and put myself even farther into college loan debt than I already am.

I currently live in Flagstaff on my parents couch, and as you can imagine, as a 26 year old that’s just trying to get into my own place and become self relient, it drives me nuts living with them lol. I also have decided to start narrowing my “career” search (not job search, career search. I’m looking for a little better than working an hourly job at Subway) into the Phoenix area as it is a larger city with more career opportunities, currently a relatively low cost of living and of course, I like the year round warmth as well :)

I was just wondering what kind of career opportunities one can dive into that require a Bachelor’s Degree, but not necessarily in a Geographic related field. I’ve looked into property management and real estate, and thats something I might possibly pursue. Other then that, what other kinds of options are available for someone with a Bachelor’s Degree of any kind? Thank you for your help!
I should probably mention that when I came to Flagstaff, I did attempt to start a graduate certificate at NAU, but found out the program wasn’t very beneficial for me, so I’ve decided to look for something instead. I Haven’t been sitting on my parents couch, being lazy, eating potato chips and blowing money or anything like that.

Sorry, but most employers don’t care enough about a degree for you to use it to get jobs outside of what you received your degree in. You might very well have to work somewhere like Subway, especially if you have spent a year not working. Work experience is the most important thing to employers, and it sounds like you don’t have any recent work experience. Employers discriminate against people who haven’t worked in months when hiring.

If you think you can get a job in real estate, then that might be your best bet. The only other thing you can get a job in that wouldn’t be a minimum wage-type of job would be sales-related things, i.e. insurance companies, car sales and places like Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Do you consider completing research project for a masters ‘management experience”?

Question by Q: Do you consider completing research project for a masters ‘management experience”?
In my masters project I had to:
- identify tasks to be completed, and schedule personnel to complete the tasks (including evening shifts, and work outside our research group)
- often times had to deal with lab employees being out sick or scheduling them around vacations, etc.
- search for products and arrange for them to be procured (although this always had to be ok-ed by my supervisor)
- select a research site (outdoor work) and had to communicate with another company to acquire a license to use their land
- since it was my project it was my responsibility to assist personnel with tasks and ensure they were completed properly
- communicate with external companies for servicing of our equipment

basically I was responsible for planning tasks related to the project, making sure everything was organized, directing others on what to do when, and how to do it, and also keeping tabs on everything, making sure supplies were available, making sure work was done correctly, etc.

So as long as I point out it was through a masters project, is it ok to say I have experience managing people/resources on a resume?

I also taught after school courses to young kids and TA’ed numerous university courses where planning classes, teaching, dealing with large groups of students (supervising them) was necessary.

Please let me know your thoughts!!

Management experience means a job managing people.

A master’s project does not qualify.

Teaching is closer to managing people, although an interviewer would probably not count teaching kids as managing people. The TA might count if we stretch this, but if you are competing against someone with real management experience, you’re at a disadvantage.

Are assumptions legal in AZ Real Estate?

Question by Mξ∫ĭŊĐд: Are assumptions legal in AZ Real Estate?
I’m having some issues with my landlord’s property management company. I have other questions out there and many answers I have received mention that the landlord & renter can assume that for example:

1. Rent is due on the first of the month.
2. That there were no damages in the home prior to the contract.

In court, is it legal to assume these things if they are not in writting? There is a written contract with no due date (it is left blank). There is no list or form listing prior damages.

My question – Is it legal to just assume things in AZ real estate or do they need to be in writting?
I know it seems that I keep asking this question over & over becasue I am trying to actually find someone out there that actually knows AZ Tenant Landlord Laws.

Also I am asking again to get a better clarification before I go to the broker that signed off on the rental contract as I don’t want to start a complaint if I am wrong.

I get answers from real estate agents from WI, CO, CA and such but I am looking for someone in AZ or familiar with AZ laws to answer.

The landlord/tenant relationship is governed by the Arizona Landlord Tenant Act. Available at: http://www.azsos.gov/public_services/publications/residential_landlord_tenant_Act/Residential.pdf

Section 33-1314 C states that rent shall be paid on the date agreed and if no date is agreed upon then it is monthly installments at the beginning of each month.

As far as damages without a walk-in inspection the landlord has the obligation in court to prove that you did the damage. With no inspection form there is no reasonable way the landlord could prove that the rental was damaged by you.
